Dear Friends of Flesor's Candy Kitchen,

Happy New Year! Happy Valentine's Day!

We hate to use cliches, but time really does fly. One day we're popping the champagne cork, and the next day we're molding chocolate hearts. At Flesor's Candy Kitchen in Tuscola, Illinois, customers are flocking in—in January, of all months. Last year at this time we were breaking shovels on the ice on our brick sidewalks, hoping that the locals might be able to make it from their cars to our door. This early January, by contrast, the unusually warm weather has enabled so many new friends from all over the state and beyond to plan a pilgrimage to our little store on the corner. And yes, snow is coming, but we hope it will not dampen people's enthusiasm for hand-made chocolates and ice-cream sodas.

Thanks to articles about Flesor's Candy Kitchen in the Winter 2011 issue of Illinois Farm Bureau's Partners magazine and the March 2012 issue of Country Woman magazine, many more folks are discovering our business and our little town. What fun! A few years ago we received a flurry of media attention, culminating in a short spot on the CBS EVENING NEWS, so we understand well how national exposure can affect our business. We love it! We love the warm wishes, the increased candy sales, and the fact that we're helping our little town. Thanks, friends, for visiting the other shops in Tuscola, for shopping at our excellent Tanger mall, and for buying gas or staying in our hotels. When we decided to revive our family's craft, our “mission statement” included helping Tuscola's overall economy. And we're doing that. And we're delighted and proud and determined to continue.

Valentine's Day will be here in a minute, and we confectioners love it. Chocolates can help you communicate your passion, your love, your devotion. Yes, they are a “traditional” gift, but Flesor's Candy Kitchen chocolates are especially yummy AND they are hand-made by real people who haven't lost their connection to their customers. Also, you can slip cool stuff into our heart boxes—like diamond earrings or crisp 100 dollar bills or, if your loved one is bath-hating 8-year-old boy, Pokemon cards. Valentine's Day is sexy and silly.
